Abstract

This paper investigates the determinants of access to an employment adjusted to the characteristics expected for university graduates once the educational investment is made, analyzing Bachelor's, Master's and PhD’s differences. Based on microdata from Labour Insertion Survey from one of the most prestigious universities in Spain (UAM) and using probabilistic models, the employment probability is estimated for each educational level, based on four characteristics: stability, salaries, horizontal adjustment and job suitability. According to the results, aspects such as chosen degree, academic performance, computer skills or language knowledge have a positive impact on Bachelor’s graduates, while what is really relevant for Postgraduate studies is the field of study. Furthermore, the estimates show gender differences persist, especially among Bachelor's graduates, unlike those of Master’s degrees.
